Position Overview

The Wellness and Community Care Consultant is a crucial role that harmonizes artistic expression with mental well-being. This position supports our diverse community of artists and staff, ensuring a nurturing environment that promotes both creative excellence and personal growth. 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide one-on-one consultations to artists and staff (approximately 16 hours), addressing:

    • Creative blocks

    • Emotional responses to content material

    • Interpersonal dynamics within the community

    • Personal well-being concerns

  2. Facilitate community-wide activities and conversations (approximately 2-4 hours) that promote:

    • Group cohesion

    • Cultural sensitivity and inclusivity

    • Stress management and resilience

    • Communication practices aligned with with our values of equity, accountability, and connection 

  3. Develop and share psychoeducational resources tailored to the unique needs of creative professionals (approximately 2 hours)

  4. Offer crisis intervention support as needed, with clear protocols for escalation to appropriate professional services

  5. Collaborate with the Resident Community Care Consultant to ensure comprehensive support for all participants (Approximately 4 hours)

  6. Contribute to the development of wellness-focused programming that aligns with artistic goals

  7. Promote and support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the artist community

Qualifications

  • Required: Active license as a mental health professional (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or equivalent)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a counseling or consulting role

  • Strong understanding of the creative process and challenges unique to artists

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Experience in group facilitation and community-building

  • Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques

  • Passion for the arts and their impact on society

  • Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of intersectionality

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in previous roles

Important Notes

  • This role is not a substitute for therapy, mediation, or HR services. The consultant will work within ethical boundaries to provide support while recognizing when to refer individuals to additional professional services.

  • The position requires a nuanced understanding of the intersection between artistic expression and mental health, balancing the need for emotional exploration with personal well-being. Experience or specialization working with creatives is preferred.

Details

  • This position is specifically for the duration of our annual residency program, not a full-year role.

  • On-site presence: May 21 - June 1 (12 days) in New Harmony, Indiana

  • Additional commitments include:

    • 2-3 1 hour virtual preparatory meetings with staff (dates to be determined)

    • 1 hour Virtual orientation session (date to be determined)

    • 1 hour Virtual postpartum meeting with staff following the residency

  • Compensation: $2,000 stipend for the entire engagement, plus room and board during the on-site period

  • Reports to: Executive Artistic Director

  • Works closely with: Resident Community Care Consultant
