A Week-Long Celebration of Writing, New Play Development, and Theatre

The New Harmony Project is planning a one-week new play festival that centers the needs and process of writers, supports the development of new work for the stage, builds community by introducing NHP alumni playwrights to theatres and theatre leadership, strengthens the already healthy Indianapolis theatre community and puts Indianapolis on the map as a center of innovation and new play development.

The festival will give theatre-goers an exciting opportunity to see many different plays in development at once, which will expand their understanding of the many ways that new work can be developed. It will also give theatres that have not yet focused on new plays a first-hand experience of developing new work, without taking significant risks. It may also lead to a blossoming of the number of world premiere productions by Indianapolis theatres.

What’s in a Name? Everything!

We’ve been playing around with a name for the new play festival, but we could use some help to come up with a name that’s attention-grabbing, pithy, and also conveys the idea of the play festival. So far, we’ve come up with:

  • Play Fest Indy

  • Stagecraft Indy: A Festival of New Plays

  • Indy Play Week

Do you have a good idea for the festival’s name? We’d love to hear it. Submit a suggestion below and if it’s selected as the festival name, we’ll send you this ultra-cool NHP backpack!
